Zimmermann's 'Goldentime' is a nostalgic summer tribute
Some of the best childhood memories are always reflected upon in a golden light; swathing and dappling days of old where times seemed free and fun.
Creative director Nicky Zimmermann has captured her own retrospection of Australia’s Sunshine Coast in the 1960’s and 1970’s for Zimmermann’s latest Spring collection. Showcased in New York; the aptly titled “Goldentime” takes direction from beachside suburbia, at a time when kitsch motels met with glowing sandy shorelines for the ultimate honeymoon destination.
Ultraviolet prints are enhanced by textural manipulations; pleating and gathering bringing life to bright sherbet florals. Hues of violet, blue, lemon and pink, bring out the flavours of summer. Shades of white act as a palette cleanser, balancing the collection with textural embroidery over linen shirting.
Each garment shapes a unique silhouette, with signature lacing and trims framing peek-a-boo windows of skin. Staying true to Zimmermann innovation, variations of French knots and applique have been developed in house to add a modern edge to tailored sleeves and collars.
Tying the collection together are the striped pastel knits paired with short skirts. The overall mood is light and fresh, enhanced by the tinted windows that create a soft glow.
Watching the models float down the runway, you can almost smell the summer breeze intermingled with salt and sand. Just as refreshing was the amount of looks paired with fresh white sneakers, emulating the ideal Zimmermann girl; merging runway style with effortless street credibility.
